Prevention is a core part of the Miles for Smiles Foundation mission to protect children from abuse and neglect while empowering survivors with knowledge, hope, and support.
We believe children deserve protection before harm happens, not only support after abuse has occurred. Through education, training, and community engagement, Miles for Smiles helps adults better understand their role in creating safer environments for children.
One important part of this work is offering child sexual abuse prevention training through Darkness to Light’s Stewards of Children® Program. Stewards of Children® is an evidence-informed, award-winning 2.5-hour training that teaches adults to prevent, recognize, and react responsibly to child sexual abuse.
Our prevention efforts also include sharing practical information with parents, caregivers, educators, organizations, and community members about body safety, boundaries, online safety, recognizing concerns, responding to disclosure, and reporting suspected abuse or neglect.
Prevention requires more than good intentions. It requires knowledge, action, and the courage to have difficult but necessary conversations.
